Weathermen and Hurricanes

A weatherman was almost killed yesterday by a lightning strike while standing outside reporting in FL. I could never understand why the stations put their people out in storms. We all know what a storm looks like. Why force someone to stand out there for who-knows-how-long to tell us it's windy and rainy? Maybe the weathermen, and women, want to be out there - looking tough.

Even with as much experience as that which Cantore has, it takes a special kind of Stupid to put on a dorky helmet and stand out in the howling winds and torrential rain every time there is a hurricane. I think he keeps over-trying to prove his Macho Man status. Back in the day, there was a slogan in the Naval Aviation community that stated, " 'Can-Do' can do you in".

I was having the same discussuion with my wife the other day watching these Darwin Award Candidates report the news. Wearing that helmet is not going to save him from something like this.

Great picture. They should cut off the ends that stick out and see what happens. On the other hand, removing that board entirely would probably be the best course to follow.

I noticed 2 incidents with weather people, one may have been Cantore. A reporter was hit by a branch. The other involved a hero reporter that saved a person by pulling her out of her partially submerged car and carrying her on his back to safety.

I guess they figure the more they put their own lives in danger, the more you’ll watch that particular weather reporter.

I've never quite understood that, either.

Yes, that’s the video I saw on the news. I didn’t hear anything about a lightning strike.

I love it, it puts drama in the weather. It shows their mentality and how stupid they are. An older gentleman here in town went out in his backyard to retrieve a golf size piece of hail from the backyard. He got hit by one and took a chunk of his arm off. If the weatherman can do it why can't he.
