That's funny!

10 frames/sec X 60 sec/min X 6.67min = 4002 shots

I'm thinking of getting this program to control my impulse to import everything into Lightroom. Just wondering if anyone's used it or is using it and is happy with it.I do practically all of my processing in LR Classic.

Yes, you should get this program - I used to import everything to LR also and now I see what a HUGE waste of disk space that is.

Photo Mechanic is really good for culling photos down and just keeping the keepers.

Highly recommended.

To shoot 4000 a day you have to shoot one picture every 10 seconds for 10 hours without stopping or travelling. How do you do that... just wondering

Hello.

Even at a pokey 5 frames per second for my camera's low-speed continuous bursts, you can easily shoot 4000 images in a 6-hour airshow or a great day of birds in flight, or similar.

Now consider modern mirrorless cameras shooting 30 frames per second, some models even more.

Should you? That's a valid question ...

The huge disk space you mention is only temporary, untill you cull.LR is super fast culling. I take everything through LR, cull, then edit. LR is also fast.

Until the 1:1 previews are built, Lightroom is nowhere "FAST" like FastRAWViewer.

I haven't used another program to cull, but LR is fast enough for me. I mark the ones I don't want with an x. Then delete all of them marked with the x from the disk.

Now I have to try culling with Faststone to see a difference. But when deleted from dusk, is not the 1:1 previews also deleted.

I give two ideas of FRV and LR in the responses on this thread: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-753073-1.html

FRV isn't perfect, and assumes some 'expectations' of the LR processed result when looking at an unprocessed rendering of the RAW image in FRV.

I gave my professional opinion to respond to the OP.

I'll elaborate: Photo Mechanic is relatively cheap - the updates are free, and it works really well. If you want LR to slowly render the shots and then cull from LR thats your prerogative and is perfectly fine.

The OP asked if I thought Photo Mechanic is helpful and the answer is a resounding yes. I am a pro photographer and there are many many pros in the industry that also use Photo Mechanic - it is actually a bit of a staple among professional photographers.

I emphasize that pros use it because generally pros are the ones that need to cull the most photos - if we're all using Photo Mechanic - there must be a reason - but is it necessary (strictly speaking) - no - it is just very useful and time saving.

Baron, I was not questioning the use of an external culler. My main point was that the large memory used is only temporary, untill the culling is done. Then all that is left are the keepers. I sometimes use Faststone image viewer. But most of the time, for me I just use LR. I'm not a pro and don't usually take a large quantity of photos at once.

My statement was not to step on toes or say someone is doing something wrong. That is not me. If it was taken that way, I apologize.
