Printing Services

Based on an earlier post I was planning on buying a Canon 1000 printer. However, I think I’m going to go with a paid service instead. This will be mostly for me to print so I can hang pictures in my home. The frames will likely be 8.5 x 11 or slightly larger. I plan to swap out the prints every 4 to 8 weeks. Obviously, I would like to get the best results possible

I know there are a lot of reviews out there on the spring services, but I wanted to get your opinions. What service would you recommend?

I used Bayphoto about three years ago , got fantastic prints & great service . I had four sixteen x twenty-four B&W's I don't remember the cost but it was cheaper than maintaining a printer. Eight ink cartridges $132 plus shipping for the Epson R2400- plus the cost purchasing a new printer, my printer was junk due to lack of use.
I just checked B/P cost 16X24 $30-$60, 24X36 $73-$93

That is how I looked at it as well. You laid out well the argument against a printer.
For the amount of printing I do a pro level printer, even a cheaper one is not worth it.
If I were selling prints in a relatively large volume that would be different.

Smart decision using printing service. I’ve used Mpix and Bay Photo. Very happy with both.

Pache,
I have multiple mounted pictures on the walls of my home, (all are 24" wide with various depths). I've paid the 'big bucks' to have some printed while others were done at Sam's Club (before they stopped in-store printing), and even some printed recently by Walmart in-store service. (Very good job by the way!)
Once mounted and displayed on the wall I seriously think even our 'experts' could tell which were printed by whom.
Just my two-cents offered. Good luck on your choice.
God Bless,
Papa Joe

I stopped making my own prints and use Bay Photo to make my prints now. Sending the images over the internet is easy and the printed results are great and arrive very well packaged. They have a large variety of products to choose from.

Three years ago I took a private tour of Bay Photo’s 110,000 square ft. facility in Scotts Valley, CA. All I had to do was see the sheer amount of their expensive/high end printers and talk to their engineers about their quality printing process, to convince myself I should leave my large print printing to the pros.
I could never replicate something like that on a small home scale without spending a small fortune IMHO.
I’m 100% happy with the prints from BayPhoto, MPIX, WHCC.

Having an agency like Bayphoto print always costs more...

IF you have a following you can post your images and LET YOUR CLIENTS decide what they want to have printed ...this way IT costs you nothing, THEY pay for their orders, YOU pay to have your images online with America Fine Arts online... IF you have only a few images, it costs very little or nothing, IF you have lots, there is a reasonable fee...good luck

Check out Canvas Land. They do canvas prints but also other type printing. I recently sent some prints in to see how their service was. I ordered 8x10 and 8x12 prints in metal, glossy, and matt finishes. These were mounted on foam core boards (choice of black or white - I chose black), and the quality was excellent. The price per mounted print was 4.99 to 5.99 depending on surface requested. Look them up on line. For straight prints it is hard to beat Sam's Club and Costco, both of which have only on line services now.

Printique by Adorama, yes that Adorama .

They consistently get the best reviews of all labs in the USA. As a longtime pro, I have used them for years and am completely satisfied, as are my clients .

FYI, I do have an expensive Canon 24 inch wide archival printer, but for volume work I go with Printique.

Cheers

The OP isn't talking about selling photos, but printing them for his walls.
