AI system makes models like DALL-E 2 more creative

Hmmmm...a synthesis of Salvador Dali and a robot...create whatever you can imagine. SCARY, seeing the things that come out of photogs' imaginings without the technology.
Just like Photography has not replaced Art, and Photoshop and the like have not replaced Good photography, AI will probably become a part of the evolution.

I agree that photography will be with us; however, only for a small minority - like the people in this forum. But, unfortunately, it seems that 98% of photos taken have degraded to selfies and picures of food about to be devoured! Mobile phone cameras have made pictures so commonplace that for many they aren't special anymore. 🙁

Photos taken with a cellphone camera are still photos- just created with a different tool - cell phone cameras have opened up a wider range of photos

Until the government confiscates all of our cameras and (recording devices), people will still continue to keep recording "life" thru the lens of a camera.

As long as I have (all) my photos in a box or on computer, I can always remember, "my yesterday".
(My Memories keeps losing video, everyday).

Time will tell. Lots of people like "playing" with cameras and processing software. I'm one of them.

Some will like it as it will allow them to create images from their mind.

I'll stick with photography.

Me too.

I have a DALL-E account and it's fun to play with. However. your question regarding photography is similar to many writers who need to write. They pick some subject and write an article meant to bait a reader into reading it.

To answer your question, in a word...NO. Cameras will be with us with no fear of going away.

AI uses computers. Photography uses light. Two separate media.

Check out gugan from Nvidia. It is an AI art generator based on what you attempt to draw. It is free and kind of neat. It allows me with ZERO artist skill to draw some really neat scenes. Nvidia also has special drivers for their GPUs just for photography. Their website is not the easiest to find things but definitely worth looking at. They are least understand that a GPU is for something other than gaming. Lol

Recreational and professional photography benefits from technology and manufacturing momentum generated by industrial, military, and astronomical photography...and cinema and surveillance and probably other critical sectors I can't think of. For this reason I think conventional cameras and lenses will always be commercially available and a major part of artistic expression.

Folks are still painting and welding and carving and throwing clay and gluing macaroni noodles onto paper. Why should photography die before those mediums? Why should it be replaced by photogrammetry or AI?

Actually, I think the recreational world would benefit from some dilution. Fewer people doing photography would increase demand, decrease supply. I wonder if the great photographers of the past would get much attention in today's market glut or if their works would seem impressive.

Hmmm . . . so where do the images generated by AI come from???

Photography maybe?

This is great for imagination, but it doesn't help me at all when I want to capture a beautiful sunrise/landscape/sunset scene that I want to remember as I saw it, not how I imagined it.

I think I have reached the age where I remember 1/3 of the things I've seen as they were, 1/3 of things as I wanted to see them, and ... HUH!, what are you talking about.

No such thing as true AI.
So called AI just follows a set of choices programmed by some one

To me, this looks like an assortment of photographs, chosen from a large stored collection, by a computer's "Artificial Intelligence", that was programed by someone, to pick images that fit certain words. I found it as "interesting" as a computer program assembled collage. Picking square or rectangular photos and arranging them into neat rows and columns is as boring as looking at the empty stadium seats in a football or NASCAR arena. A true collage is supposed to be a randomized placement of images of different sizes at differing angles, cut or torn to crop and fit together as to generate interest. So far, computers and A.I. do not come close to this in any fashion.

And yes, I intended all those commas in the first sentence as emphasis to help everyone understand my thoughts.

Abstract artists knew all along that abstract art was the true art not so called "realistic" art which can be generated by machines.
