Great photos!!! I am really enjoying your photos!!

What a wide angle lens can do to help you get a perspective! Also, I am wondering if a polarizer would help in the seconded frame.

Thanks Johanna.
The circular polarized filter is on my 16-35mm f2.8 Len all the time, I think the glaze from the spotlight is so intense which the filter and PP could not eliminate it completely.

Great photos under difficult situations.
I wonder if the church people understand the damage they are causing by using those high powered spots.
My thoughts quickly went to my trip to Dayton AF Museum with my then new DSLR. Everything in the 3rd building is black, concrete floor and walls/ceiling. Lightning is mostly 1,000 watt spots. Very dramatic. Very difficult to take photos.
Seeing your expertise, I assume you tried shooting both way over and under exposed. (My solutions) And I assume you had very little time to experiment. So if I my pick your brain, I am courious what you did to overcome this terrible lighting.

I went back through all three threads. The colors in this Basilica are so rich. It's amazing. You not only captured the depth and richness of the colors but the feel. It made me feel like I was there. I could almost smell the wood.

Hi lmTrying,
In a normal situation you should take 2 shots with different exposures and combine them, but for tourists like us, it is very hard to do because the time we have and the crowd we encountered. So, most of the time to overcome the spotlights situation which will create a havoc in dynamic range, I just under expose the shot a bit (-1 stop or -1 1/3 stop). Then I rely on my good camera body (the R or R5 body) to reduce the hi-light and increase the shadow. That is all you can do in that situation.
Best regards
