I saw this on YouTube last night. In general, these programs spy on you, collect data, load other programs - including spyware and keystroke loggers. Several of the companies have changed owners/bosses, so conditions have changed, and not for the better. You can make your own choices, of course.
Tiktok, privacy, intrusive
Cleaners, like CCleaners, spying, extra programs
ITunes
Opera, new bosses, false claims. Use Vivaldi.
LightShot, privacy. Use ShareX.
Torrent, Crypto miner installed. Use BitTorrent
Zoom, questionable security, bad history
WinRar. Use7zip
Be careful with extensions

Yes, the permissions are absolutely ridiculous, but what are you going to do? When I setup Gmail on my Kindle, I have to give Amazon total access and all rights to my emails. If I don't, I can't use the Kindle for email. That's typical of permissions. You give every company total access to your entire digital life. Either that, or you don't use the Internet.

It’s a little too late, this generation has been lulled into surrendering its privacy for convenience!
iTunes had a one time breach that others used to spy on you. The spyware takes advantage of an unencrypted HTTP request that is filed by iTunes when Apple Software Updater is inactive. It was a hole that was plugged.
Just like scammers on the phone or internet, you gotta be careful out there, it's a brave new world.

I really have to use something other than iTunes. It always causes me trouble.

That's because you don't run Mac. Just saying, each to their own, but different OS's don't play well with each other.

Also be aware that all sorts of electronic devices that connect to your phone via Bluetooth or your wireless network ask permission (or maybe they don't ask...)to use ALL of the aps on your phone! Read the fine print for sure. I purchased a wireless OBD2 scanner that plugs into your car's diagnostic port and provides engine data in real time to an ap on your phone. I sent it back to Amazon after downloading the AP and having it requesting permission to access anything on my phone. I don't think so...

Boy, that's a stretch. There's no excuse for that. I have one that plugs into that port, and it sends date to a GPS. It provides so much information that I have to decide what I want it to display. It's interesting to watch values change as I drive. I have to remember to remove it when I have the car inspected.
