Although it's never happened to me, I'd be afraid of a board breaking or becoming dislodged, or a connection coming undone and the bed frame falling onto my gear.

Use Kaizen foam... http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/Kaizen-Foam-p13435.htm

You can get it through many sources.

It comes in a couple of thicknesses and is layered so that you can cut the shape you need and get the depth from removing enough layers. Its used widely for packing expensive gear for shipment or travel. Works really good for drawer storage of pricy stuff.

I am presently using it for a drawer set that I am making for my son. He will use it for storage of tooling for a small metalworking lathe.

I like the idea, but for me, it would be like getting a tattoo. I'd never be able to decide what to put where, and once it's done, it's permanent.

Great ideas and I like 'a place for everything and...', but I prefer everything in my Tamrac backpack by the door and ready to go in a moment!

If all it is for is storage, you got it with the bubble wrap. Only other thing is to check Home Depot or Lowes for the grey foam type sheets and line the drawers with it with Elmers glue. But thats going a bit far.

Who's scoring you on the neatness ? Bubble wrap is fine.

Hi Sarge, thanks for your reply. By "storage", I didn't mean "putting away items not regularly used". I am hoping someone can suggest a better system to hold my frequently-used camera and lenses to stop them rolling around when the drawer is opened. The problem with the drawer divider is that most of my gear doesn't fit into the slots so just sits balanced on top - hence the bubble wrap to protect it from getting scratched. Obviously, I could wrap each item in bubble wrap and just place it in the drawer, but they would still roll around and I don't want to have to unwrap a lens or camera every time I want to use it. I'm not concerned with how it looks - just need some practical ideas!
PS How's your new home?

If they are frequently used, why not simply leave them in your padded camera bag. Then they will always be ready for instant use. If you don't have one, there are many great bags out there on the market.

Why not forget this whole matter. Do you travel around with your house on your back or just the chest of drawers??? I don't mean this sarcastically but get yourself a proper camera bag. You don't always take pictures in your bedroom do you? Or do you?????

After some cleaning, this will be my desktop accessory storage. Genuine plastic and only 3 bucks at a yard sale.

Stop treating this stuff like it'll stop working from the merest scratch! Cameras are tools, treat them carefully, of course but don't be fanatic. I bought a metal carrying case 40 or more years ago and I've had up to 3 cameras, lenses, etc. in there with no more than a small piece of foam. The oldest show a little wear but so what, they work fine.

I know an elderly woman who is beyond fanatical about "taking care" of her stuff. It is so well wrapped and boxed that it's never available for use! Someday her relatives will inherit a lot of old, perfect items.
