If I misunderstood the implications I will apologize and yes while it is true that the media generally points to the container full being brought through the major ports rest assured that there is a distribution system in place for the backpack brigade.
The same coyotes as they are refered to are all too happy to allow smuggled goods in lieu of pay.
This has never been the sort of thing that is reported by the media but it is the same thing that the border patrol agents face daily .

Mexican law PROHIBITS most weapon possession, certainly all pistols and semi-automatic weapons. About the only available weapons are non-semiautomatic shotguns.

and crooked businesses selling it to brokers and dealers w/o consequence.

actually, I think more arms are being smuggled the other way....getting guns is major problem in Mex.....easy here..
I live in Mex quite abit and can find guns on black market..but not easily...getting a legal weapon in Mex is NOT easy.
getting caught with even a bullet can get you in deep shit in Mexico including jail time..IM not sayin there are not a lot of illegal weapons in Mex but unless you are pretty well connected with police or military or have shitload of money you are asking for trouble..

I think thats exactly what he said & is correct...there are frequent stop & search vehicle stations in Mex & believe me you dont want to get caught with illegal gun or ammo unless you are well connected...In USA its not that big a deal.
I even had a pocket knife confiscated once by chicken-shit cop there but didnt have much recourse

Why are they quiet? I don't know, you would have to ask them, personally I don't give a $hit about those documents and the fact is that you probably don't either but it does serve you as an excuse to project further outrage at those you politically disagree with.
