Wow. I have never seen the aurora when there was so much light that the undersides of the clouds were lit up so brightly. Was this a long exposure?
I'm sure there are times when a north facing bedroom window would be a disadvantage, but it certainly worked out well here, and having a clear view over the water helped considerably too.
A north facing window wouldn't help for me as I live too far south to have auroras visible in any but the most unusual occasions (predicted ones are normally hidden by clouds anyway)

I'm guessing, temperature outside, time of night may have been significant factors, but the bedroom also offers a raised viewpoint which almost certainly improves the image...
