Just watched a fun western on TCM titled Apache War Smoke from '54 with Gilbert Roland, Robert Horton and Barbara Ruick, with a cast of familiar names, including a 19 year old Robert Blake, and Iron Eyes Cody.

Horton and Ruick married about this time for a couple of years. After their divorce, Ruick married John Williams, the conductor, with whom she had three children. She passed away in her sleep in '74 in her early 40's from a brain aneurysm.

Gilbert Roland played an Apache, of course. Just one more in a long line of White actors playing “Indians”. Who can forget Rock Hudson as Taza, Son of Cochise 🤦🏻‍♂️

Obviously you did not see the movie. Iron Eyes Cody played Cochise. You may have something there. He played an Indian character well. Gilbert Roland played Peso. Not an Indian.

I remember Rock Hudson in that movie. It was horrible.

I use to actually think that iron eyes was a true native but then I learned he's an Italian American.

Not to mention that Ricardo Montalbon played a native American several times.
I was quite glad when Hollywood finally realized that real native American people have acting talent and actually look the part.
