If either Chelsea or Tony, or both, told me what time it was, I'd pray I had an accurate watch to check for myself.

Photography is supposed to be fun. That said, learn the very basics but don't ever be afraid to experiment! Look up videos by Tony and Chelsea Northrup. He has written many books and his videos are easy to follow along with. He's also done tons of tutorials on many different cameras, yours included. Enjoy the journey!

I miss the regular manual that used to come with cameras. I'm not going to print 164 pages on my printer.

I bought the CreativeLive offering of John Greengo explaining Z cameras - $14 for well over an hour of video. I seem to remember that in the past, you could download what you bought. If they go out of business, my Library will disappear. I'll have to look at what they're showing every day because what they are showing live - all day long - is free to watch.

Unfortunately you can't ask questions on You-Tube. After 50 yrs of photography I signed up for a beginners night course at a local college just for the fun of it. I believed I would pick something up or see something with fresh eyes. I was right, as there were a couple "Hmmm!"moments. You will however pick up many different viewpoints by watching a variety of You-Tube videos.

I've posted questions in the Comments section, and I've gotten replies. I learned that they like comments because that helps their YouTube score.

I suggest you see if there is a camera club or photography club in your area. They are great places to learn how to use your camera and how to take better pictures. And they are a great place to meet people with similar interests.

The regular manual can be a good reference but I’ve generally barely cracked them open. I don’t get those people that say they read the entire manual even before getting the camera. 80% is stuff that is pretty generic info that most of us already know. That other 20% I can get faster and better from Google/YouTube. And there’s no such thing as a 164 age manual anymore. Everything is 700-1000 pages now.

When I got my first camera, the guy that owned the camera store said that best way to learn is

1. Look at other photographs that you like and try to copy them
2. Take a lot of pictures and learn what you are doing wrong, and correct it

There is no easy way to learn anything.

Like the old joke, how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice

Being a classical musician, I'll expand on the Carnegie Hall statement...intelligent practice. Practicing bad habits only re-enforces those bad habits and makes them much harder to correct.

Everything you could ever possibly learn in photography is discussed and demonstrated for free on utube. Save the titles you like, paying attention to the authors, as they probably have other good videos on other topics too.

After reading the Carnagie Hall comment I was reminded of Spring Training. The Baltimore Orioles’ training camp maxim, in the old days when they were good, is:

“PRACTICE DOESN’T MAKE PERFECT, PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.”
