This is a photograph I took recently. Have changed to black and white in Photoshop and brought the color back with a plug-in from topaz Labs. I would appreciate all comments.

This is a very unique way of handling this image. The deer in color really detracts from the rest of the composition, make you see it first for sure. Have you tried playing with desaturation? you desaturate the whole image to keep some hint of color in it and then keep all of the color in the deer. It would probably be less of a visual shock.
sorry, I like brainstorming on images and how to make them stronger and would like for people to do the same for me.

Hi
Here is a comparison between full color and bw with careful saturation.
Photoshop.
Picture was taken with handheld 6meg Sony pocketcamera.
Won several awards.

done in photoshop.
2 layers
qrey scale desaturated fully
placed on top of full color image
Then used eraser at various strengths to erase the top image to show the color I wanted exposed. The flames were at 100% in the center of the flames, then outlined around the colot using the eraser at 20% to blend
The faces on the men were at about 25% erasure.
You can do this in elements, I think.
I love the Smokies, used to live in Asheville

Thanks for the info. Will try what you say to do. We are about 2 hours from Asheville. We love it here in the mountains and are 18 feet from the Hiawassee River. Can fish off my deck.

Well, humm, where is the focus of the hot metal photo,,,, oh, the only sweating hot red glowing object! How could I have overlooked that? Great technique, thanks. I will add to my quiver of arrows.

BW,,, Topaz has a new set of BW-monocolor plugin tools ,,, intro for $29 check it out. There are webinars also. TopazLabs.com
Nope, do not work for them, rather Topaz works for me.

I know elements is capable of perfoming this from whe I used it. You want the tab that has hue, temp, brightness, contrast etc...daturation will be in there too. good luck.

I don't like that tecnique very much. Try just reducing the red some in the main picture and leaving the deer in full color. That way you will have a softer look, but still have the deer as the main focus. You will created a more natural looking picture that won't leave people thinking "photshoped, to death", when they look at it.

There are some images that benefit from this process. Sorry, though, this isn't one of them IMO.

I'd shoot the deer, cut down all the trees and irradiate the soil. Just kidding. :)
