Hello , I've never had to find a program to view my raw photos until I got a laptop and had a major overhaul on my desktop, until now. I have been out of the photography loop for some time but I'm back now. I want to organize my photos, it's about time, edit and post. Problem = I can't see my raw files.
Unfortunately, I need a program to do that. It has to be free and basically for any brand of camera. I have been looking and talking to other photographers. So, this is what I have been up against = I'll be given a website to go on. I'm told that's where I'll find a good program. Unfortunately, there will be about 5 different programs to use. Yikes!
I shoot Canon and have Windows 11. I believe it can be Windows 10. I do not want a program from Canon. I ran into a problem with them yesterday. A charge of $46. I had it refunded last night. Sneaky bastards!! I don't want a program for editing. I want to be able to divide the photos and put them into folders, rotate if needed, delete if needed and maybe put a slideshow together, if possible.
So, is there anyone out there who knows of a good free program io view one's raw photos?
Thanks !

It's not free but it's immensely cheaper than the free ones.

It's free and allows you to see the embedded jpeg of raw files.

I thought the program from Canon would be free and would certainly allow you to view raw files from Canon cameras.

Interesting find I JUST found out!
Windows 11 <file> Explorer previews Canon .CR2 files! Cool!
(Not that I need it though.)

Don't <most> "slide show" programs use JPEGS?

DPP (the editor) and a viewer came with the camera and I can download free updates.

Sandy,

You wrote, "I have been out of the photography loop for some time but I'm back now."

If that is true, you deserve something good like the Adobe $10 per month Photographers plan. If that's offensive, what you have with your computer should do a marginal job for free.

I'm on Windows 10 with the current version of "Photos" that comes with Windows. I have no trouble viewing RAW images. It needs current updates.

It will also preview Canon .CR3 files and many other RAW formats.

I shoot Canon and use mostly Faststone and PSCC. However take a look at the Canon DPP Software, free. https://en.canon-cna.com/support/consumer_products/software/digital-photo-professional.html?os=windows%2010%20(64-bit)&language=
Also Faststone free. https://www.faststone.org/

Good luck and welcome back. Gary

FastRawViewer is the way to go. Very modest cost, supreme value in the capability.

A lot of good advice but an easy solution is to go the Microsoft web site and download the Codec for raw files. I have it on 3 computers.

Search the Microsoft Store for RAW Image Extension. It is free.
