I have a Watchdog program that barks and stops auto install programs ... This morning an uninvited inspection program tried to install twice and if it were not for Watchdog would have succeeded.
The program: "The AdobeGCClient is a process that runs as part of the Adobe Software "Integrity Service validation testing," [sounds noble] which checks for any tampering with Adobe Software program files or improper or invalid license" by tampering with your computer. To my surprise, it installed with my legally purchased PSE 2018 as part of the package... bet it searches beyond that!!! It uses resources when it periodically does a scan my computer to look for Adobe being tampered with. Does it gather information about other edit programs I use, does it mess with them in a virus like way?
https://speedutilities.com/process/adobegcclient.exe.htmConfession ... OK OK, I legally bought my PSE 2018 but I did modify it with "Elements Plus" which opens more functions in PSE... is it illegal? I paid my $12 for PSE-Plus, also I added many plug in to my PSE. OK OK I use Paint-shop-Pro as a main editor, unfaithful to the accepted cult of Adobe.
https://elementsplus.net/UHH people did you know that Adobe was going thru your closets... did they ask your permission, should they? What if every software you have had installed a similar program running in the background checking on you, would you be offended by the invasion of your computer privacy and resources?
Now that you know do you intend to remove it?
So, you trust the yahoos at some bunch of nobodies at 'WatchDog' over the professional software engineers at Adobe? That says something.
BTW - is that even current / supported software? Is it possible with no updates, it isn't keeping up with August 2022 threats? That would be something much more relevant to be concerned about ....
CHG, Watchdog, simply barks when something is trying to install and leaves it up to me to research what the program or modification is and then chose accept or reject.
I have the latest Malwarebytes and Avast. WinPetrol, the Watchdog simply keeps track of events and alerts me with a bark.
CHG_CANON said... "yahoos at some bunch of nobodies at 'WatchDog' over the professional software engineers at Adobe?" Oh, unless an engineer is not working for Adobe, then they are not professional!!! CHG Canon you have an amazingly restricted predigest view. CHG, It appears you have "cerebral-suppository syndrome" a disease caused by eating too much Adobe Marketing PR.
While it is not the "August of 22" you refer to, an article published in July 2022 states that Affinity ranks high"... Affinity is $55 one time purchase. Thank you for prompting me, my update to the latest Affinity just now was free... no subscription like Adobe PS.
https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/"The best Photoshop alternatives are no longer merely poor imitations of Adobe's industry-leading image manipulation program. They're becoming more sophisticated, and in 2022, some not only come close to matching Photoshop for many uses, but they also offer unique features of their own."
https://www.creativebloq.com/photoshop/alternatives-1131641I note you like to attack one of your quotes, "If Ansel Adams was the photographer worthy of that name, he'd do a better job Straight Out Of Camera like a Real Photographer." WOW ... dems shor be strong words sir!!

The AdobeGCClient is for real and it's installed automatically. It checked and see if you messed around with Adobe software. But it does no harm if you use Adobe software legally. If you don't it would find out and tells you and not letting you use the software.

"The AdobeGCClient is for real and it's installed automatically" [added to BebuLamar's quote] malong with the Adobe program.
OK, but my legal PSE was late in 2017 and legal. Now is 2022 and it is trying AdobeGCClient installing independent of any new installation of Adobe software since PSE 2018 purchased in late 2017.
I have no idea what GCClient may look for beyond Adobe... that to me is a no no. What other software or my bank balance is something that a skilled programmer at Adobe could work into the AdobeGCClient program... who would know [??] there are thousands of lines in the software. People on other projects would be too busy and would not study to find out what those new lines of code did. So any computer that ever had or has an Adobe program installed could be vulnerable and malware or antivirus would see it as a sanctified Adobe program and is not a known threat. GCClinent opens the door and scans your computer and reports back with some information perhaps diverted to Mr X an Adobe employee who is also a scammer. I agreed to install PSE 2018 but not to open the door forever to inspection. It has been 5 years.

If you delete the AdobeGCClient, if you are on the internet Adobe would try to reinstall it. I think Adobe put it there to prevent people who extend their trial period to something like a million days. So it's possible that your initial installation didn't have it and Adobe just added it without your knowing.

Everyone can understand the frustration... but, it is my true belief that there is a one-line sentence written somewhere in your "26-page Adobe Agreement" which gives them "All Powers" over your System and/or your "first-born child..... ha ha ha... Just wondering how many of their 13,500 employees are attornies who oversee that part of the operations.... LOL.
...... Just saying

BBL, the program GCClient is in my legal Adobe PSE folder... installed in 2017

Not sure but it sounds like you are running windoze! Never have to run additional (Ruff) programs to find out about software installs. If I don't install it, it doesn't get installed. Once you go mac, you never go back.

I haven't used an Adobe product since Reader 4. Looks like another reason to stay away.
Yes, the above is a religious ( or political) statement. I get it. But I still won't budge.
And if BS was pennies we'd all be rich!

Most every program you install these days phones home at regular intervals. You are being tracked and recorded 24/7

I've been a Linux user for more than 25 years and don't run into those kinds of problems either.

Are you sure about that? If you use LR or PS I bet you have the AdobeGCClient running on your computer. You could try to delete it but then it will install itself again.
