I know this will be the longest of long shots, but does anyone happen to know where the serial number might be on this camera body? I decided that my minor case of GAS dictated that I should record the serial numbers of my camera bodies and lenses so that I’d have a record … just in case of loss, theft, fire, whatever. I’ve managed to locate them all except for N5005. I’ve examined it from all angles, inside and out, and with different lighting, and there does not seem to be an imprinted number anywhere. Is it possible Nikon did not put a serial number on all their camera bodies? I bought it used with no original packaging or materials so that’s no help, and the manual I DLd had no reference to one.
Thank you! It is there, but all but invisible to my naked eye. Had to take a couple of pictures in just the right light and enlarge them to see it. Even though I know it’s there, I still only make out the faintest hint of it when I look at it without some sort of magnification. 🙄 Thank you again!

I take it you didn't shoot film or you would probably have had a loupe or two around. I often have to use mine to read small print.
I have a loupe. A magnifying glass as well. If I had seen the faintest indication of a number, I would have used something, but the dang thing is all but invisible. 🤷🏻♂️
The camera should have the serial number as you have found out. But in the case of fire I don't think I would even care for the N5005.
