Photographing in Raleigh, N.C.
I will be driving from Buffalo, NY to Raleigh, N.C. and will have time
in Raleigh to photograph whatever. Does anyone have suggestions
as to what to photograph in the Raleigh area?

The NC Arboretum, The Rose Garden and the Hemerocallis (Day Lily) gardens are all good spots. If you’re willing to drive 20 miles to Duke Gardens at Duke University in Durham, they are impressive as is the gothic revival campus and Duke Chapel with its grand organ. And don’t forget to stop by our excellent local photo store, Southeastern Camera. On any given weekend, there may be a festival or concert downtown, and Raleigh is filled with excellent restaurants, and try our local Eastern NC BBQ. Chapel Hiil, NC, 20 miles away, has it’s own Arboretum, a beautiful campus and an excellent Planetarium. If you happen to be Catholic, Raleigh has a new and lovely Cathedral. If Victorian architecture is your thing, the Governor’s mansion and the Historic Oakwood neighborhood (and cemetery) may be of interest.
TriX gave you a great list of places to go in the area. I would add Yates Mill to that list if old mills interest you.
I have visited several times. The North Carolina Zoo is a couple of hours away. The Duke University Lemur center was interesting but they have limited tours also in the forest with two tribes of lemurs. Check their website. I have also heard there is a large cat sanctuary and bird sanctuaries nearby but those you will have to Google.
The NC Arboretum for sure. Gardens at Duke University.
I concur with TriX and also with the addition of Yates Mill. And I’d reinforce the comment about Southeastern Camera - they are a fine, ethical store with a full line of new and used cameras, lenses and equipment. Also, UNC in nearby Chapel Hill has a botanical garden, and Chapel Hill, the town, is quaint. I’d reinforce the interest in the Governor’s Mansion, and the State Capitol (the older one with the dome). A long one day drive to Wilmington would feature the battleship USS North Carolina, and an equal length drive to Southport NC would be a quaint coastal town with great views. Enjoy your stay down here!

Visit to Southeastern Camera is a good one. Tony has a storehouse of used stuff that is a pleasure to feast your eyes on.
