We were vacationing with my parents near Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan near Lake Huron. As I recall, Dad and I went to the base for a round of golf. A B-52 was doing some touch and goes. Always fun to see.

Landed, in a B-52, once at Wurtsmith... in a emergency... were on fire.

I was in Avionics maintenance but some maintenance people were on flying status. Would fly every month (had to, to get the extra $ for flying). My favorite seat to fly in was the IP (instructor pilot) ... if there wasn't an IP on the flight... just behind and between the pilot and co-pilot... as depicted by the picture (not me in picture... just showing the seat)... and a pic of the view from that seat

Facebook post by the local Air Force Base. They are the Depot for the F-15 and after working them they do a test flight that includes high speed run. In the days I worked on the base I enjoyed seeing them stand that airplane on its tail and light the fires.

I believe it was the first plane able to accelerate going straight up until it runs out of air. Fine aircraft

In 1961 I was at MCRD San Diego 'enjoying' Marine Corps Boot Camp. It wasn't lighting any fires, but whenever the Navy took off in one of their PBM Mariners everything stopped. Even the DI's couldn't talk over the PBM Mariner engine noise.

I just read that the base where Growlers are stationed has lost a lawsuit by the state's attorney general over it's planned expansion of operations. They either are now or were planning 110,000 flights per year. I can't quite figure out why an electronic surveillance plane would need to make that many flights on U.S. soil.

Gotta keep training… there are lots of things to keep being proficient on and lots of things constantly changing. Can’t afford for warfighters to not be ready when needed…

… and the bad guys don’t usually want us training in their airspace

There's a liquor store in my town that sells Bitburger Pilsner.
