I've always liked Lionel. I started buying some a few years ago, but they're still sitting in their boxes. I should have thought about where I would set them up, but then I wouldn't have bought them. Do you have an eBay store?

No store, but my eBay user name is 'kmielen'.

We just got through selling our place and moving. I now remember why I do not collect "stuff". It seemed like for weeks that I packed "stuff", sold "stuff" and donated "stuff" and I still had more "stuff" than I knew what to do with. Still, we wound up storing the "stuff" we decided to keep but could not move at this time.

Since we started dating in 2005, my wife and I have moved about 8 times. It seems to get worse each time. After moving all that "stuff" that many times, it seems like it never goes down in weight or volume, only up.

Minimalism really begins to seem like a good philosophy to live by.

My wife and I celebrated our 49th anniversary in June. We have lived at our current address for the longest of any address in our entire lives. We moved into this house in February 1997. that got us into our ninth address of our marriage. We had each lived at two addresses prior to our marriage. I'm not including my college or military adresses in there. Over those years we have accumulated, bought, sold, donated, thrown out, or given away so much "stuff". I learned many years ago what my step-father used to say about moving, "Three moves are as good as a fire."

I was browsing cameras on eBay just now, and it's amazing what you can find. If I was younger, I might be tempted to start collecting cameras - for display. There are very cheap "For Parts" cameras available if all you want is a display. If you want odd-looking, unfamiliar brands, you can get them almost for free. I don't need any more old film cameras, working or not, but I might look at what Nikkor lenses are available. There's KEH and MPB, too.

One thing I thought was odd, and this applies to all products on eBay. Why do people display items that need a good cleaning? Spend a couple of minutes with a rag and a brush, and the item would look much better. When I take pictures for eBay, I make sure what I'm selling looks like new.

I wonder the same thing. Some folks live dusty lives and some are OCD folks. I tend to lean toward the OCD side of things. I keep my things clean.

I wish I hadn't sold (under duress?) two cameras I sold years ago. A Mercury II rotary shutter half-frame, and a Sears 35|RF, which is a clone of the Ricoh 500G rangefinder. I kept a few when I sold the lot, but I should have kept those.

Why does it matter so much what other people do or don't do? Sheesh!

I agree. Live and let live. A fellow hog posted a pick of his new pistol. He lives in the town my niece graduated from the university. I live close also. I made the comment that I liked his new toy and my niece graduated from Miami. The nuts fell from the tree about my comment. If I don't like something I just move on. Social media has made people mouthy. Lol.

Let it rest! It is a good indication of what kind of care it has had in the past...and to clean your camera up before posting...and win the sale.

We are in this house 52 years. I'll trade you my stuff for your stuff. At our age, we get multiple invites from all the local "over 55" and Assisted Living facilities and one of the most common seminars they offer (with a nice lunch, or whatever) is a presenter on the subject of downsizing. If we have heard it once we've heard it dozens of times: "your kids do NOT want your "stuff", be it Hummels, cut-glass, LLadro, furniture, etc. A quick check on eBay re the Hummels will quickly dispel any thoughts you might have that your prized collection of same are going to finance your retirement. It's a different world these days.

Except for some of my tools and electronics, no one would want any of the stuff I've accumulated, but I can't bear to part with it.

I get a weekly email with all the local estate sales - usually half a dozen or so each weekend. With photos. This being Florida, many of these sales are due to folks moving into assisted living or moving to the great beyond. And undoubtedly the kids have picked through and taken a few good items, but holy cow - in almost all sales, 99% of the stuff should just be taken to Goodwill. Even half-used containers of food in the pantry that really should just be tossed out! Ugh. Sometimes there are decent collections of things that no one collects any more - like Hummels. Sometimes hundreds of Hummels. Their shelves full of Hummels can be YOUR shelves full of Hummels that YOUR kids won't want!

I suppose their shelves full of Hummels is not too different than my hard drives full of photos that I appreciate, but that no one else really cares about!

A real hot ticket item is books. Even if you can find a used book store, most of them won't even accept anything but the very best if you're giving them away, never mind taking a couple of boxes full in and getting some money for them like back in the ancient times. Ceramic birds anyone? Howzabout some scale model lighthouses? I'd even be real surprised to top a few hundred dollars on my coin collection. Rusty tools and fasteners. OMG, where did it all come from?
