I watched a couple of videos by doctors on YouTube, and it looks like I'm safe. Not only have I been vaccinated against smallpox, but Monkey Pox is spread through sexual contact. I'm safe!

I was vaccinated against smallpox as a child. I was vaccinated again when I was 22 because I was in health care in New York City, a port of entry for potential cases. I'm not worried about it on multiple levels.

Actually, I've been thinking about that. It's true, but any physical contact with a lesion can lead to spread. I've been packed into subway cars, trolleys and buses in cities like New York, Boston and London. I see a potential problem there during hot weather when people don't have their entire bodies covered. Just common sense. Time will tell how this plays out.

Yes, the scare of smallpox and vaccination against it will help a whole lot of older people!

Unfortunately, that's true. Any contact with a person or anything the person has touched. That leaves a lot of scary surfaces. A real worry is if it goes into animals. Then it will spread faster and make humans have to be even more careful.

If its spread thru sex the only way I'll get it is if I give it to myself.

As for the second part, I'll pay for camera gear, but there are some things I won't pay for.

Just to have something to worry about. I was wondering about cow pox, originally used to prevent small pox, but it appears it only exists in Europe (mainly Britain) and Russia, can be very nasty including deadly, but is mainly spread by rodents and CATS. So think twice before playing with those stray cats over there.

Just curious, but does the smallpox vaccine I got as a child over 60 years ago really still protect me from either smallpox or monkey pox? Seems like an awfully long time to be effective? Since they declared smallpox dead a good while back and virtually no one has been vaccinated for it since then, this leaves a whole lot of folks without any protection, but I have my doubts about my vaccination being effective after such a long time as well. Guess I need to do some research on this subject! While, I don't think the monkey pox infection numbers justify any sort of panic response, I would like to be informed on the subject as many probably would.
