It does seem like the quality of the painting has gone down. If the artwork is great, you do not notice the less than desirable parts to look at. Maybe the bloom is off the rose for the artists that used to do this sort of thing. But it sure looks like those who participated had a blast!

JohnFrim...I totally agree with you. Most are old and overweight and simply gross.

Hi all!

Just some shots from yesterday's 2022 NYC Bodypainting Day. Because of the extreme heat (the mid-90s) and bad light of the midday sun, the organizers used canopies to provide shade and a protective area for the artists and their models to work; all this was surrounded by barriers used by police to separate spectators from the participants.

Under the canopies, the results were more problematic: "open shade" light, flat in contrast and colors, bluish in nature and difficult to photograph the models and artists. I had to circle around 4 or 5 times to shoot and squeeze in between the spectators with cell phones. I only stayed for 20 minutes. "Mad dogs and Englishmen...and crazy photographers in the midday sun!" I used a 12 MP Nikon D3, 28-300mm F3.5 Nikkor, set to "ISO sensitivity," allowing the ISO to range from 400 to 1600 and "Picture Control" set to "Neutral, +1 contrast and +1 saturation." Luckily I was able to grab a few decent shots after editing them!

Be well! Ed

I am somewhat disappointed by many of the comments here, which totally miss the point of this event.
For those of you that have made comments of a personal nature about the participating volunteers, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Well, these shots prove that some people should just not be seen naked in public!

Well, Rog, if your comment was directed at me then it was water off a duck's back. The world -- and life -- is full of beauty AND ugliness. To ignore reality or gloss over it is just kidding yourself. I will not twist myself into a pretzel trying to polish a turd (sorry for being so blunt). My comment about the subjects of this photo exposé was not nasty, but rather politely realistic and honest as my opinion. If you think these people have beautiful bodies then have at it; but not me. I have seen too much nude beauty on these pages to include these folks as wonderful subjects for nude photography.

The images in this thread tell a story, that's for sure, and I think that is what the photographer intended. I guess I just got a different story than you did.

As in the Nazi attempts to exterminate anyone who didn't fit their particular profile? Think about what you write.

Whoah, buddy! Naziism? Calm down. This is Attic talk; we can take it there if you like. I politely said these human canvases were not beautiful bodies. Sheesh!

You said people who don't fit your idea of beautiful bodies should not be allowed to be there etc. Your views aren't far from Nazi ideals. You should be ashamed of yourself. But you're not.
We aren't talking about professional life models but people who chose to use their rights to take part in of festival of freedom and you and others think they should be locked away from plain sight.
Think about it.

When you come right down to it...I' m old and short and fat...and that's why I don't run around public streets in the nude or in body paint and I tend to hold others to my views. Other than the photography that bunch was just seriously gross and should have stayed at home.

My point exactly. You believe that people who don't fit your own ideal of stereotype should be locked up and not seen. Including by your own admission you.

I'm sure the 99th amendment that allows nudity in New York didn't have a rider that says this only applies to 'beautiful people as selected by John Frim and Skylinefirepest...."
Have a think about how narrow minded your views are and how those with similar narrow minded views operated in the 30/40's and in some places around the world are still imposing their narrow minded views on others.

Hey, I don't set the rules and if they want to run around naked then I'm fine with it...I still think that most of them were gross and ill advised to show their old and fat wares!

Right on. This is about opinions, not rules or laws.

Absolutely. I don't tell people what to do or how to act but I do marvel at some of the things they do...apparently without looking in a mirror first. If I were going to run around in my alltogethers it would have been when I was a hell of a lot younger...back when I was a STUD instead of simply a fat old man!!
