I’ve had DISH for years. Not perfect but has the programming I like. The Hopper comes built in with some streaming apps but I don’t use them. Our smart Samsung can also download apps.

Check out Sling TV, a streaming service. A whole lot cheaper than DISH and no rain fade.

My mother bounced back and forth between Dish and Direct for years. Not much difference. She finally gave up and went to cable which isn't any better she says but at least she doesn't lose signal when it rains too hard. I still have Dish but I find the programming is horrible. I only watch four or five channels. We don't have cable available so I can't watch much college football without it.

We dropped cable TV a couple years ago. All 5 of our TV's are hooked up via Comcast modem using it's built in Wifi. All of our TV's have both ROKU and Amazon Fire. As much as I dislike Bezos, if you have Amazon Prime, it makes his Firestick many times better than Roku. We also a $20 HD digital antennae. The digital antennae pulls in the local channels and actually 60+ channels.

For one, the PHOTO app is awesome since you store all your pictures on Amazon Drive for free, and view pics and slideshows with his free PHOTO app (while listening to free music if you want.) Roku recently added a photo app but it plain sucks compared to Amazons.

YouTube and Pluto give you more TV than anyone can watch, and my wife likes the antennae because it has some mainstream TV stuff she watches, like game shows (Jeopardy and some others) , local news also old, old TV sitcoms she likes.

Also, with Prime you get tons of music from it's free Amazon Music app. All this, and more is free, other than the annual Prime membership which is now like $120/year, but it is, imo, the best deal around. We used to spend over $300/month on cable TV and we got a whole lot less. Our only expense is the comcast modem and Prime. We save over 2g's a year and like it better than the cable TV

We use Roku. As installed, Roku provides quite a few channels, most of which we don't watch. However, you can get your local channels and much more interesting content by subscribing to YouTubeTV, Sling, or Fubo. We subscribe to YouTubeTV, and get all our local channels, PBS, and more sports than we can watch. At $65/month, it's way cheaper than the satellite providers. Here's a list of the channels: https://www.tvguide.com/news/youtube-tv-channels-list/

Never used Dish. Not interested. They have a history of getting into contract disputes with various networks, and until they get worked out, you can't watch those channels.

Before we moved in retirement, we suffered from astronomical rate increases with Comcast and then poor performance with DirecTV. The DVR they gave us at the time was a joke. Playback would screw up frequently. If it was raining outside, reception could be a problem. Also, they didn't carry the subchannels of any of the local TV stations such as MeTV, and I'd have to watch using an antenna.

But we moved to a fairly remote area where we're at the limit of Xfinity/Comcast and went back to them. There are no other viable internet options in my neighborhood that compare with a direct connection. We went with their TV as well to keep things simple. I have to reset at least one of the two cable boxes about once or twice a week. They charge too much money, but we haven't made a decision on that yet.

I have DIRECTV for years and loved it. But I canceled everything and I use your tooth television. I like it the best.

Unfortunately I am kind of stuck on Dish, in that we have a receiver on our rv. When on the road, it is almost impossible to get a WiFi signal that is sufficient to stream. At least with Dish, you can suspend the service when you are not using it. If I could find a reliable way to get sufficient data via WiFi for streaming, I might consider dropping dish and going with something like Roku. Another problem also, and perhaps I am stupid here, with the streaming service, I don’t know how to get the local programming.

What is "tooth television"? Is that like when someone has dental work done and they can pick up radio stations in the new filling? But in this case they hear TV stations.
