Forgive me if I sound a little stuck-up. I prefer to go into a store like B&H and fondle the camera. I fell in love with many but when it is not available I won’t put my name down and wait. As good as the camera is, I still won’t buy it. So I’m happy with my 5D and if and when the R7 becomes available I might buy it.

Your choice.
1 for most here B&H is not an option nor is there any store in a decent distance.
PS, I would not go near NYC anymore nor any other major in the USA.
So our only option is to buy on specs and reviews.

You don’t sound stuck up!! I didn’t see or touch the R7 before buying - it’s smaller than expected (specs don’t always tell the story) but has a nice deep comfortable
grip. In times past it didn’t seem so difficult to buy the camera you wanted but with chip and supply issues it’s getting harder and the waits longer. And no large camera stores within 130 miles of here.

I've never made it a priority to buy in person. I find out all I need to know online, and then I order whatever it is. If I order from a reputable seller, I can return it if there's a problem.

Months ago I was thinking about the R7/10 before they got here - but then I got the Sony RX10m4 and started using it - all thoughts about enlarging or updating my Canon gear were squashed ! Still trying to think of GOOD reasons for keeping my Canon stuff .......So, I am wondering if you have used the Sony ?? or, thought about it .
.

Similar story? My wife & I scheduled a Danube River Cruise in summer of 2018. I owned two Canon DSLR's (7D MII & 5D MIII, three L lenses ( 70 - 200 f/2.8 II, 24 - 70 f.2.8 & f/1.4 50mm). With necessary other equipment and a back pack the weight was about 30 lbs. I decided it was far too much to carry on the cruise. Purchased a Sony RX10 IV around May to provide some learning time and become accustomed to the Sony system. By the time cruise time came around, I was comfortable with the Sony. I was not disappointed and in 2020 sold all my Canon equipment on UHH. So now, I own only the Sony. I'm not sorry or disappointed in the image quality and love the convenience of one camera suitable for almost any venue. However, the new Canon's available have me thinking. I have back issues which have limited my photography. I may have an operation soon to alleviate the severe stenosis. However, I'm 85 so, ... The new R7 with lighter lenses and the prospect of a successful back operation have me thinking. At least at 85, I'm still able think and dream. Life is good!!
