The Secret Service failed to follow the Records Retention Law after they were reminded and advised multiple times to back up their data, which had been requested by multiple committees.

It wasn't a one off request.

It wasn't a minor slip-up, it's a concerted effort to HIDE their involvement in a major cover-up.

It wasn't an accident that all of those text messages from 1/5 & 1/6 dissapeared.

The question should be how high up the chain of command did the cover-up go?

It's not a coincidence that the head of the Secret Service has just announced his retirement.

trump was the Commander and Chief, the Secret Service falls under his purview under the Executive branch of Government.

The Secret Service reports to the US Department of Homeland Security, which reports to the White House.

So yes, trump would have had that kind of authority while he was still in office.

But I'm not too sure that trump would have been thinking that clearly to order the destruction of records by the Secret Service, when trump was still fuming about his failed attempted coup.

Don't forget that trump took all of those boxes of records from the White House to Mar-A-Lago.

I stated that while trump was still in office, that trump would have had that authority.

We don't know yet, WHEN the texts were deleted, do we?

So if it was between January 6, 2021 and noon on January 20, 2021, trump DID have the authority to order the Secret Service to delete their texts.

If the orders came after noon on January 20, 2021, then no trump didn't have any authority to order the deletion of those texts.

That doesn't mean that the orders didn't come from a trump loyalist.
