I was on the waiting list for the R7 camera and nothing much was happening. So after waiting for 3 weeks I called one place to check the status and was told I was number 30 on the list. That didn't sound too bad until customer service also mentioned that they were only getting 6-7 units a month.

So I checked around and found everywhere I looked that the camera body only was backordered- no surprise. However in checking around I found that a few kits were available rather than body only. And Best Buy had one. Within a week my order was fulfilled. PS- Best Buy is not the place to buy a cameras unless you are sure you want it as they have a 15% restock fee for returns (does not apply to a defective camera).

I am only mentioning this as a possible option to those that are tired of waiting and don't mind paying more for the kit which includes the 18-150 mm lens. Would I buy this lens independent of the camera- not likely but it is a small, lightweight, responsive lens.

I guess I was lucky as when I place my order with B&H mine was shipped on the original release date. I too received the 18 -150 lens and on this body, it becomes 28-240 which I'm finding to be an excellent lens, covering the perfect distance for a carry around package. I do believe the lens is going to surprise you. I've added an EF 10-22 (16-35) and have an RF 100-400 on order. I'm rather excited by this combination and all light enough to carry.

Keep Shooting,

Appreciate you input! I will be downloading first images with that combination today. Images looked good in the VF- hope they look as good on the computer. I agree that it is a compact and lightweight combination that has possibilities.

Excellent! Thinking outside the box. When I bought a camera a while back, body and kits lens were all that were available. I didn't need the lens, so I sold it.

I bought two Canon cameras from Best Buy online, the first one was the EOS7D that I picked up in the store (already prepaid) and the second one (80D) delivered to the house due to the video kit (they did not carry this in the store but could pay for it there and have delivered). The thing about delivery was no ring, no knock - just put on the front porch and I got an email a few minutes later that it was delivered. I didn't hear a thing and neither did our two dogs. For that much money it seemed like they would require a signature.

Another avenue is Canon direct. I got my R5 from B&H with the 24-105. I then wanted the 100-500 and the 800 f/11. It was taking weeks with no end in sight. I finally went to Canon's website, ordered both of these with the 2x extender and they were all in stock. I canceled the order at B&H and got the lenses from Canon within a week.

I have had the same experience at CanonUSA. That's the first place I go to order gear. But their website said they were backordered too. For some reason the R7 I ordered at Best Buy was not available for delivery so I picked it up at the local store.

Months ago I was thinking about the R7/10 before they got here - but then I got the Sony RX10m4 and started using it - all thoughts about enlarging or updating my Canon gear were squashed ! Still trying to think of GOOD reasons for keeping my Canon stuff .......So, I am wondering if you have used the Sony ?? or, thought about it .

Good combo for R7. I have the Sony A74 and am waiting for a new Canon full frame. I just hate the Sony menu!! The A74 is a great camera, but somehow I just find Canon so much easier to use.

The only Sony I have used is the a6000. That was some time ago. There were things I liked about it and things I didn't like most all cameras. The things I didn't like about it was the ergonomics and menu system and battery power so I never followed Sony's line further. I can't fault them for image quality though. They got that right! The one camera that I love it the Canon R6. And so I decided on the R7 as backup and longer reach for those far off birds. I can interchange the lenses between the two cameras and the menu systems are similar.

I agree. Canon has been easier to use, easier to hold and handle. I just got the R7 so haven't set it up yet. But I did a preview of the video and it is great. Auto focus in video mode works really well catching focus quickly. I was very glad to see that because there isn't time for fiddly video. I have the R6 and love it.

Hi, I think I’ll switch back as soon as a new model of the R6 comes out! I gave all my Canon gear to my sister and switched to Sony! I tried so hard to like the touch screen but it’s a real pain. Canon makes it so much more fun to use.

Lucky sister! The R6 has a touch screen that isn't so sensitive it's a pain. I use it for changing menu items mainly but not for focus. I think the R3 full frame is Canon's flagship and came after the R5/R6 series. I am waiting for a R mount 70-300 f 4 extender compatible for the R7 if Canon ever goes there. Wait on.

Forgive me if I sound a little stuck-up. I prefer to go into a store like B&H and fondle the camera. I fell in love with many but when it is not available I won’t put my name down and wait. As good as the camera is, I still won’t buy it. So I’m happy with my 5D and if and when the R7 becomes available I might buy it.
