Thanks CHG, should I sell my stuff on UHH, Ebay, or somewhere else?

I was thinking the same thing about the 100-300. My GAS is showing up again, I started looking at the Tamron version 70-300 f4-5.6. It is under a pound, much lighter than the Canon and much less expensive. Also, the reviews that I've read are quite good. Any opinion on it?

I don't have experience with the Tamron. The Canon version ranges between $500 and $600, but maybe the sale days on the the Canon model are over as they wind down making EF lenses.

The effort you spend prepping the UHH post (text and images) can be reused on ebay, later as needed. Beyond your local Craig's List, your only other option are the large resellers, and they pay the minimum / blue-book value. But, they do tend to at least buy anything making them a near guaranteed buyer.

I would think any kind of sports or action photography would be a no-go, unless you are very skilled at using manual focus with moving subjects

While sports action is not going to be any fun with a mirror lens it doesn't mean you can't have fun with one at a sports venue.

Back in the 90s I brought my Sigma 600mm f/8 mirror lens to Yankee Stadium for a game against the Detroit Tigers. We had box seats about 6 rows up and just to the right of the screen behind home plate. My seat gave me an unobstructed view of home plate as well as 1st and 2nd bases.

It was an overcast day and I was shooting FujiColor 400 film in a Nikon N2000 with the lens and camera mounted on a heavy duty Slik monopod. The light weight of the lens will tempt you to shoot handheld, but at the very least you should brace against a fence post or use a monopod.

My avatar pic of the Great Blue Heron was shot with that camera/lens combination on FujiChrome 100 and the following pic of Dave Winfield was taken at the Stadium:

Some tidbits of information about Dave Winfield. He is one of a select few baseball players that went straight to the major leagues without ever playing a single inning of minor league baseball.

The San Diego Padres selected him as a pitcher with the fourth overall pick in the June 1973 MLB draft and both the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) and the Utah Stars (ABA) drafted him. Though he never played college football, the Minnesota Vikings selected Winfield in the 17th round of the NFL draft.

Even though he was drafted as a pitcher, his bat was so impressive that he was immediately placed into right field where he could still use that strong arm throwing out runners. Straight to the major leagues after the June 1973 draft and batted 0.277 the remainder of the season as a rookie. He was also first drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1969, but he chose to attend college.

Well, I went and did it, listing my cameras and lenses for sale on UHH. I have already had offers on my 7D and 28-105, and they will be shipped soon. No responses on all the rest yet, but I am hopeful. If they don't sell here, what would you suggest I try next?

Thanks again for all your correspondence,
Mike Vetrano.

Congrats Mike! You might consider some pictures, as I remember just text when reading the initial post. KEH and MPB are your next / possibly last options. You can get quotes from both. Consider if you should then update your post to 'best offer' to get a bit more over the wholesale price offer from the corporate resellers.

Thank you, but I looked at a few quotes from KEH and they were ridiculous, about 10% of what the prices on Ebay were. I don't want to give my precious equipment away, but would rather see it go to a fellow UHHer. I will wait a while longer to see if someone else from the site would be interested in what I have to offer, if not, maybe then try Ebay.

Thank you,
Mike Vetrano.

Well Paul I took your advice. I purchased an R6 right here from a fellow hogger. I received it and am now playing with it trying to set it up for my types of photos. Tried it with all of the EF lenses that I want to keep, and it seems fine. I will update you when I finally go out and shoot with it. My wife is upset with me for buying the camera before selling my 6DII and some lenses to pay for it, bus GAS happens!

Tell her you went online to KEH.com and generated an online quote for all the remaining equipment. Then decide how much more effort you'll try before selling to them. That should buy you a week of time to focus on the R6. Have fun!

My GOD, You Really Do Get off On All Things Canon. I Bet If Someone Told You That Canon Came Out With A Toilet, You Would Rush Out And Buy It. I Really Don't Believe You Paul, Especially When There's a Fed. Agent on This Forum And You Tell The Guy To Print A Fake Label. You Really Don't Have Any Shame In Your Game Paul. You Are A Fine Specimen And We Should Make Sure, GOD Forbid Something Were To Happen To You, That You Are Buried in a Casket That Has Canon R6 Painted On It. You Slay Me, You Were Probably Half Asleep And The Liberty Mutual Commercial Triggered Your Brain And You Woke Up and Thought Of You And Leemu Driving In A Van With Canon R6 Painted On It.

Paul, I think that Nickaroo did not realize that you were joking and got off on you mistakingly, unfortunate!
