Comparing the D850, 105G Macro Nikkor f 2.8 to the Z9, Z 100-400 on bees. My D850 with the 105 attached is my go to kit for bees and flowers. The 105 does not focus very quickly and can be cranky and hard to deal with.
#s 1, 2 and 3 are D850 files. #s4, 5, and 6 are Z9. Different cameras and different "ideas" in mind for what the shots might look like.
I had some concerns about the Z 100-400's sharpness, clarity and color rendition. The bee shots are good, and I got what I wanted in terms of background lighting and bokeh.
I may do a 70-200 shoot out, shoulders allowing as I am in pain again today!
Download and enjoy! What do think? Do the Z 100-400 shots pass muster for bees?
Excellent! Few bees here this year,

Thanx! I am very glad this image came out! I saw the light hit the wings and I hit the shutter!
Either combo seems to do a great job.
I like them all.

Thanx! It is hard to pick.
Nice set. I like the D850 shots a little better.
