You know what? It really isn't a bad ad. I wonder just really how effective it was for NEX sales though?

I do believe that there are way too many people out there that have DSLR's that do not know how to use them to their full potential therefor wasting money. I have even asked people if they knew what DSLR stands for? And just like in the commercial, they did not know.

I own a DSLR and I like the fact that I can change out lenses for different projects. This is why I purchased one. It happens to be a Sony. I love it! I also have a very nice bridge camera. It is not a Sony. And for the times when I either can not or do not feel like carrying either one, I have my little Canon 8mp pocket camera. with me. It does just fine.

There are many great photographers on this forum that have traded out their DSLR's for a bridge or pocket camera in favour of the simplicity.

The photographer in this ad is spot on for showing why it is better for the DSLR owners he comes across to switch to something like the NEX.

The funny part is that you are still changing lenses on the NEX. So where is the Advantage other than size and weight?

I can see where they are coming from with that ad. I run into folks all the time that don't even know that the point & shoot they are carrying has scene modes or that they can turn the flash off. I think a lot of DSLR buyers are victims of fast talking sales people who convince them that a big fancy camera and a bag of lenses will make them an instant pro photographer. They are great tools in knowledgeable hands but not much good to the average person that just wants to take snapshots that will if ever printed will be a 4"x6" at most.

But there is a lot of truth in this. I'll ask some about what camera they have , some will say "oh it takes good pictures " or some will say "a pretty red one" ! Again I'll ask it this way , what brand is your camera ~ answer most of the time " I don't know"
but hay , they're happy and some times they'll take better pictures than me .

I've found this to be true to just about any subject you can imagine. Was it PT Barnum that said an "idiot is born every minute?"
And was it Bart Simpson that said "you can't fix stupid!"
And yes they are allowed to vote too!
Where we all this idiotic way back when?
:-) :-) :-) :-)

I have not seen an LCD screen that works good in direct sunlight. Might be one out there , but? I gotta have a viewfinder. But, did sell my Canon Rebel to get a Canon G12 as it suited my purposes better and kept my old Minolta Dimage Z6.

This is actually a funny video based on perception.

The man from Sony 'randomly' finds people on the street to ask them if they know how to use their DSLRs. The focus is to ask if they shoot in anything but Auto. Then he shows them how simple it is to use the Sony. Did he ever shoot out of Auto?

So is a mirrorless camera out of Auto any easier to use? You have the same settings as a DSLR and are changing lenses like a DSLR so expect for the size weight difference what are you gaining?
If you can't work a DSLR then why assume you can the Sony?

Sony are just pointing out what we already know, this logic applies to many electronic gadgets. Its not about the gadget its about Kudos. they want to be seen with the best, how they work it is not important to them. If I wanted snapshot quality and ease of use I would buy a cheap p&s. Those of us who take our photography seriously should be thankful these people exist, its them that keep the costs down for us. :-)

Cameras don't take good pictures; people do.

I understand what you are saying, but! is it just a coincidence then that the majority of Great Photographers use the very best equipment and get fantastic photos. Yes Joe public can get lucky and get that 1 in a million shot, but to consistently produce great photos you need the best equipment..

I guess it's true, you can pay some professional
photographers enough to say just about anything!

I live in a senior Building. Last night I went down to the lobby to catch a little T.V. and see who was there to talk with . There were a group of ladies sitting there and one had a new Nikon DSLR , I said "oh another Nikon user, they're a good choice! then I asked what model is it? She said " oh I don't know ,I just got it a few days ago ! " ,, I walked around the table so I could see what it was and I was shocked to see its the Nikon D300s ! I think if I shelled out that kind of money I'd know what it was ,,,lol .... then I asked how were the pictures and she said I don't know how to used it yet !
