Interesting, the ‘56 Cadillac was the first mass produced American car with a 12V system, practically everyone else switched over for the ‘57 model year.
Many British cars and motorcycles had Lucas electrical systems. They were so unreliable and problematic that many people referred to Lucas as “The Prince of Darkness” because of its propensity for the lights to fail at night. Brit bike manufacturers wised up in the late 70s and switched to Japanese Denso systems. No more walking home in the dark.
