I have read that they are spruce but new growth. The Park stuff prune the moss covered branches giving the appearance of Q-Tips!

Actually, I believe they're predominantly Douglas Firs. There are likely a fair number of cedars as well. Cedars are prolific on the NW coast.

I stand corrected. Likely Sitka Spruce primarily. Western Hemlock as well. Sorry for the noise.
