Looking for feedback on the Nikon Z5

This would be my first mirrorless and full frame camera. Mostly I shoot landscapes, a few family events and currently have the Nikon 7200. I have an 80-400 (AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR) full frame Nikon lens I use for nature and a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR that is my everyday lens. I also have the "kit" lenses that I rarely use (18-55 and 70-300). I would need the adapter for both of those lenses unless I replace them, but money is an issue. Appreciate your thoughts.

From what I’ve read the Z-5 is a good starter FX Mirrorless.
I have the Z-50 DX camera and the Z-6II FX camera.
You will need a FTZ adapter to use any F-Mount lens on any Z-Mount camera.

Your 80-400 and 70-300 would work with the adapter but the other two lens would only work in DX mode so even you have an FX camera your images will be the same as the DX.

Consider the cost of buying full-frame lenses. Buying a 24MP full-frame camera and then running in the DX-crop mode, due to the DX lenses, will yield images of only 10MP resolution. I'm going to guess your current DSLR has a higher pixel resolution than 10MP. Probably much higher?

Would a DX Z50 be a better choice, even if the Z50 is missing one the main MILC benefits: IBIS - in-body image stabilization?

Are you considering the right camera? Have you fully thought-out this idea?

I moved from the 7200 to a Z5 a little over a year ago and am quite pleased with it. However, I realized using the DX lens

I own it, I use it, and I've no problems with the camera. I use the adapter. I only have two lenses and just this camera. Perhaps I will sell the two lenses and the adapter and buy a mirrorless lens. If money is a problem use what you have.

A little more than a year ago I moved from the 7200 to a Z5 and am quite pleased with it. However, I think this is only a good idea if you plan on using a Z lens. I started with the kit lens and have now added. Using a DX lens on the Z5 “works” but I cannot see it making you happy.

My local used dealer had a good deal on a Z-5 kit w/24-50 zoom. I found a used FTZ adapter at another store, and I've used the camera, along with my D810 for several weeks and I like the camera. It's a starter, for sure, but I wanted a starter as a back-up for my D610, D750, and D810. I used it with my 24-70 f/2.8E lens and the results between the D750 and Z-5 are indistinguishable. My F-mount lenses work perfectly with the FTZ adapter in every respect. And I like the tripod mount on the adapter. Of course, it is a bit heavier, but that's not a problem.

If you're looking for complexity and bells and whistles, this is not your camera. It's a basic Z camera, and since I'm a fan of Aperture Priority, it works well for me. The kit lens is very sharp, and it makes for a great "walk around" camera. The only down side, and that's more of a "getting used to" issue, is the EVF. Years of seeing real time images is a real change, but not negatively so.

In the future, I'll probably get a Z-7xx, but this works fine for now.

I would check out bythom.com a long time Nikon user, writer, educator and definately not a Nikon fan boy. VERY objective reviews and no irritating pop-ups. I wish there would be a similar, knowledgeble writer for Canon.

Get the kit with the 24-200mm, keep the 80-400mm and sell the rest of the lenses.
It is one of the better FF Nikon Z unless shooting fast action then the Z9 beats it out.
Highly rated.

Good advice. I used the kit 24-200 almost exclusively for the first 8-10 months before adding some S quality Z lenses.

As already said above, your DX lenses on FX body will probably work (or may not- need to be checked), but that seems as wasting camera "optical resources".
You may continue to work with your D7200 or sell it together with belonging DX lenses.
Z5 is great camera (I own it). This is the lowest priced FX model on the market and the best in class.
You will need new lenses of course. You may skip kit lens, or you may decide to have it. Z lenses are generally superb. So far there are quite some released to choose from.
My recomendation is 24-200 Z f4-6.3. Amazing lens. Will cover your landscapes and every day fully.
Great fun with mirrorles cameras is using old manual focus lenses. You need "dumb" adapter but for Nikon F mount preAi and Ai original from Nikon FTZ will suite Nikon F AF-s and g lenses as well old manual ones.

Is there a reason why you wanted a full frame camera? The Z50 and the two kit lenses (16-50 and 50-250) covers a wide range and is relatively inexpensive. Nikon also has a DX Z 18-140 if you prefer that range. You don't really get the full advantage of mirrorless unless you use mirrorless lenses.
As others have noted if you want to go full frame the Z5 or even a used or new Z6, will be an excellent choice, with the 24-200 lens.
