We keep looking to get back there, but still are reluctant to travel with COVID variants on the rise, so will depend on our photos and memories for awhile longer! Friends just returned from a 10 day stay on the Big Island and both have contracted COVID!

Beautiful set, love the islands, especially Kauai. Seems like we are always going to have some variant out there and as I get older with finite opportunities to enjoy life and given the mildness of symptoms for most I choose to travel but your mileage may vary.

Looks like we'll be relying on our memories too for awhile before considering another trip back to Hawaii. We just don't feel comfortable traveling even though we've had all our vaccinations, just wish more people would make a greater effort to not infect others by their cavalier attitudes toward COVID.

I know what you mean and agree with you. We held off traveling for 2.5 years for exactly the same reasons, finally got enough courage and took a long 10-hour plane ride in April to spend two months in Europe to see our family and a bit of the world. It worked out well - so we are doing the same once again at the end of this month and will return at the end of September. But it is still with some trepidation that we are undertaking these travels, hoping for the best and taking all possible safeguards. - If only the others would too! BTW, on the planes we had to wear the masks except while eating, which helps somewhat.

The focus is generally on Waikiki, but if you wish to get away from wall-to-wall people on a beach, alternatives are available! That has always been our preference and here are a few photos from my archives of such beaches we have found that are "Far from the madding crowd."

Encouraging news about the requirement to wear masks the majority of the time you were onboard the plane. We'll have to see how things are developing with the newest variant of COVID as it's being touted as one of the most easily transmittable to date! Still holding out hope for a safe trip back to Hawaii for our usual stay of 4 weeks.

I guess I should specify that we were flying on Lufthansa on an overseas flight. They were strict about the mask requirement, I don't know whether American airlines, particularly on domestic routes, still require masks or not any longer.
