True or false, it's a good story. : )

Well, I guess it's true. https://aadl.org/node/40527#:~:text=When%20Benjamin%20Franklin%20passed%20away,200%20years%20after%20his%20death.

Thanks for posting, it seems so with a little searching found out more about the gentlemen that I didn't know.

Recently watched a two part Ken Burns documentary on Benjamin Franklin. There was mention of money left and currently used, but I didn’t fully catch the details. It’s well worth watching and very interesting.

The general statement is true but the details are slightly off. My question is since both cities received the same amount what was the difference in how it was invested that produced such a disparate difference between what Philadelphia's portion was worth and what Boston's portion was worth?

I would have thought this would have bumped up against The Rule Against Perpetuities, but I guess if no one challenged it. Maybe a question for the estate lawyers in our membership.

Considering the tiny amount of interest banks pay these days, I'm sure they didn't mind have all that money to play with as they added 0.1% interest.

I'd like to see someone estimate how much money the banks made on Ben's deposit over the years.

This shows Franklin was not only a brilliant politician and inventor but an optimist as well! The US was pretty fragile in those days yet he believed it would still be around in 200 years.
