When I was 15 I worked in a mom and pop grocery for Bob and Alice on the south side of Fort Worth. A wonderful place to grow up. They traded their 53 Ford for a brand new blue Impala with power steering, power brakes, push button radio and AC. Man was it fun to ride in that thing. A beauty. They had no children, but had a newphew that was a star running back at TCU. They would take me to the ball games with them in that Impala. They really made me think I was something. Thanks for the photos sparking all of wonderful memories. I loved the 58 and 59 Chevrolets. I had a 59 Biscayne when I was at TCU. V8, stick, etc.

The vehicle I learned to drive and pass my license test way back when, about 1.5 million road miles ago.

The "58" Impala has been and will always be my favorite. I bought one the year I got married (1963). Black convertable with a white top, 348, standard shift... Loved that car.

For many years after its introduction the 1958 model was considered by many to be the "ugly duckling" of the Chevy line, but lately it has been getting the admiration I think it always deserved! I have fond memories of my late teens when an older friend had a souped-up '58 Delray 2 dr sedan that I rode with him on many occasions. On one occasion, having blown the 4.11 gearset he ran in the differential and temporarily installed some 2.54 ratios, he took the car with me and another friend down to a long rural straight away to see what the car would do on top end. What resulted was one of the scariest, yet thrilling, rides of my young lifetime! As the speed increased the car seemed to rise up and began to vibrate throughout. When I looked over at the speedo, it registered 140mph! This all happened on the tires of the day and no seat belts!

Great set, KT. I once owned a 58' Bel Air, 4 dr., 348ci engine, in 1961 it was fast.

I always wonder about why I love your car photos so much.
Is it because the cars then were so intrinsically beautiful?
Or is it because it reminds me of my youth?
Or both.
Of course the great photos don't hurt either.

Great shots! Whoever owns it should consider removing the keys that appear to be hanging from the lock in the third photo. The guy in the fourth photo looks like he's waiting to pop the trunk and see what he can find.
