My wife called me outside as she was watering the front yard. She spotted this little 3/4" friend near our rose trees sitting on an old oak whiskey barrel. He is a baby! He must be the offspring of the other red mantis I found a last year on those same roses. He was posing and very active in the setting sun.

Handheld
Nikon D850 Nikon 200mm f/4 AF-D Macro ISO800 SB-400 flash.

No time for a tripod or extra gadgets. Put the camera together and shoot! :)

FUN!!!

We saw several very small ones at the end of May or the beginning of June and haven't seen any since. I was hoping for a bumper crop to help us with the Spotted Lanternfly invasion. Great shots!

Thank you. We have had these red variety and a couple of very large green ones over the years. They seem to come to my rose trees. I guess aphid hunting?
