We had the same thing going on in Jan ‘68 and even some draftees that were sent into the Marines instead of the Army. There were a few shocked individuals when they were directed to the line for Parris Island.

I was in the induction line in '69 when that happened to the man next to me. I'll never forget the look on his face when he was told he was being drafted into the Marines!

so you walked to Canada???

I was born and raised in this country. If I had run out of options and basically had to flee or face detention, I believe I would have done the time, if not quietly. I'm sure you didn't think you had a choice. I saw things differently. I may not have been able to make napalm not stick to babies, but I made damn sure I wasn't responsible for any of it.

To this day there are marines who will swear that the Marines never drafted anyone. I guess some things are just hard for someone to admit.

You can always tell a Marine, but you can’t tell them much.

Nope, just the ones who went because they were afraid to say no. In what way is the US or Viet Nam better off because you "served"?

The biggest difference is that over the years, the US has been tuning into a shit-hole.

as usual, princess, your ignorance is on display...in 69 there were several options other than the draft...Nat Guard, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard were all relatively safe options...I chose to get drafted not out of what you call cowardice but to have my active time served limited to 2 years..It worked fine for me...and I didnt napalm any babies..keep on making gutless excuses for your choice

Ps it is nice to know you are more knowledgeable than the recruiters in the field.

Go back to the Depression and almost all other down times besides the Vietnam war and you will find recruitment up, or something to that effect.

You forgot to state the Number One Issue of why recruitment is down Now according to the Military itself: "The public fiasco with the Afghanistan withdrawal shook many Americans’ confidence in the military." They call it 'challenges' in the DOD. https://www.heritage.org/defense/commentary/military-recruiting-faces-its-biggest-challenge-years

Hmm, how could one man wreak so much havoc on one country such as the Dems best choice, Joe Biden in such a short time?

Good day for it!

I’d love to take my second wife, but I’ve still got the first!
