A tropical disturbance in the gulf switched our winds out of the north for a few days. This uncommon summer wind direction resulted in our Purple Martins and Barn Swallows feeding towards me rather than away. This in turn allowed me to capture some heads versus tail shots of these erratic flyers.
Getting the bird in focus and at close enough range to make a decent crop is truly challenging for me and most of these are not that sharp. Plus, the lighting has to be good as well, especially for the dark Martins.

Gorgeous, stunning shots which, I know, are so utterly hard to get with these guys! You are to be congratulated on your persistence and skill 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
