So nice, as always. Do you ever take a dud? I'm concerned about all the dead trees in the background of the last one. Is that due to a burn or beetles?

I really like these kind of days. The clouds help set the mood. Very nice.

Though invasive, non-native insect activity had taken its toll on the mountain's trees (heavily on the aspens, less so on the Ponderosas) in recent decades, one particular fire --right at one year ago-- is the larger cause/result of all the dead trees you see. That fire --the 'Pack Creek fire'-- originated in a 'day use' picnic area, raged for several weeks, and took out thousands of acres of trees/vegetation/wildlife/and a number of residences in the little community of Pack Creek itself. Some of that destruction is plainly evident in these shots; they overlook the area where the fire began.

But do I ever take a dud? Sure; who doesn't?
