That’s both good and bad. Good because it’s one less interconnect to fail and depending on how a ribbon is attached (soldered or with a clamp-type connector), the connector can be a source of intermittent failures. But bad, because if the connector fails (as often happens with connectors such as micro USBs), you either live with the loss of that function or replace the main board (at considerable cost). On the other hand, if the ribbon is soldered to the main board, it may not be repair center replaceable, so you buy a new main board anyway.
