Thank you. Unfortunately lost some files this morning!!!!!!!!! Is Photos on the Mac any good? Thanks for replying.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop for everything I do. I honestly don't think I ever opened the photo app.
Sorry I couldn't help but hang in there, somebody might comment later.
Good Luck.

Photos was beefed up quite a bit when Apple discontinued Aperture, but it is no replacement for it.

There is a program called Raw Power that can be used as a plug-in in Photos, or as a stand-alone app. It processes raw files from digital cameras. The folks who wrote Aperture wrote Raw Power.

Add Serif's EXCELLENT Affinity Photo for advanced bitmap editing. It, too, can be a plug-in in Photos, or a stand-alone app.

Still, Adobe Lightroom CLASSIC (NOT the new Lightroom) is the most appropriate and capable replacement for Aperture. It comes with the full version of Photoshop, plus Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw and some small amount of server space, for $9.99/month. IMHO, the package is worth several times that for what it does. You do not have to use the Adobe Cloud services unless you want to. Lightroom Classic works with your files in place on your hard drive.

You have an iMac with 8GB of RAM which is 2 4GB chips. The 27" iMac has 4 RAM slots so you can just leave the 2 - 4GB chips there and add 2 - 16GB chips and end up with 40GB of RAM just like the one I am trying on right now. It works great.

And as the other user said go to Other World Computing, macsales.com and they are great and even have live, human phone technical support if you need it.

Good luck

Brian

I did the same thing, bought two 16GB chips from OWC and put them in the two available slots. They have been working flawlessly in my late 2015 27 inch Mac since I bought it new many years ago.
