New 70-200 GM II

I recently sold off a bunch of lenses and intended to purchase a 70-200 GM. Found a used ver I at a good price and used it for a couple of days, but it didn't work out. Searched the internet for the new version two but no one had it. By a stroke of luck I found a Like New used copy. It has a new Home now.

Incredible sharp, detailed and superb shot! You shot it with a 70/200 lens? What is its brand and what camera has been used? They bild a great combo! But Your skills to take photos are certainly as good if not better than the gear's performances! I love the "metallic shine" of the plumage!

Thank you very much.
The image was taken with Sony A1/70-200 GM II. I think it was in the crop mode.
The bird gets the credit for the color of the plumage.

I have heard a bunch of good stuff about version 2 of the 70-200. Some are dropping the 100-400 gm in favor of the 70-200 2 with extenders to get to the same focal length. Now that you have experience with the version 1 compared to version 2, would you be willing to share what you found to be the issues with version 1 that lead you to go with the version 2. I keep saying I am going to get the version 2 but have not pulled the trigger, assuming I can find one. Thanks in advance. Congrats on your new purchase. Nice image btw.

I would not say ver 1 had issues...especially since it is six years old and may be excellent for it's time.
Some of the new features mean nothing to me at this time...as an example the aperture ring, switches, etc..
First is the weight, almost 1lb. Less.
Continuous shutter frame rate is so much faster.
Sharpness in the center and across the frame is better at all stops.
Focus is silent...faster in lower light.
I was comparing both to the IQ of the 135 f1.8. I think the new 70 to 200 matches it closely, and to me is better do to the longer reach.
It will not replace my 100 to 400 but I might consider adding the 1.4X.
So far I am happy with my choice.
