I am looking at buying a Canon Rebel DS6041. Will it give me quality photographs? It will come with a 18-55mm lens as well as a 70-205mm Zoom lens. All other accessories included. I won't be putting money out on it but other wise trading my Laptop for it.

Depends on how good of a laptop you have. That camera was the original Rebel, I had one converted to IR and it still took good photos, but it's not on a par with even an XTi. OTOH, if your laptop's only worth $150 or less, it's probably worth picking up if it hasn't got too many shots taken with it.

Thanks, actually my laptop is the new Dell 3D that just came out this year... I did check out Amazon.com on that camera and found 13 used from 133.00 and up. The first one (133.00) was well used. and the next price up was 200.00 and up to 899.99. I know it's not worth 899.99, that's probably the cost of it when it was brand new in what ever year it came out. I shoot with canon's and nikon both but prefer canon. I just never owned this one and don't know anything at all about it. The guy is asking 400.00 but willing to trade straight across for a good laptop. He say's "I am getting rid of it because I only shot with it for about 2hr's and never touched it again." Then stated the extra lens and so on. I don't know if I should trust it or not. I do know that most people who spend a ton of money on a camera, make sure they get the money's worth out of it before putting it up for sale.

Jwilliams0469,
I cannot help you with the value of these things but Ebay has the camera for anywhere from $100 to about $400. Before buying it, you should ask the seller if there were any firmware updates and, if so, did he/she download them. You can always check the Canon website for updates, too. Hope this helps.

I can't say much I picked up my Canon 40D with less than 1,000 clicks on it for $250, (when I got it home and checked the shutter count it acutally had just over 800) so there are people out there that buy big ticket items use them once and then never touch them again. So he might be like the guy I got my camera from.

It's a roll of the dice really. I'd take your laptop loaded with a shutter count program and plug the camera in and see how manytimes he pushed down on the little button. If he really only used it for 1 day, the shutter count should be pretty low.

Good point... Thanks, I will do that. I never even thought of that. Sad thing is, I have a shutter count program already installed and it never even crossed my mind. LOL! Thanks again!

No problem, I hope you luck out and find it has a really low shutter count.

go to KEH.com and check on what they are selling the rebel for. they have much more realistic prices. when i was looking for my d-100 i went through every nikon post on ebay and amazon and found their prices to be overinflated except for film cameras and manual lenses. if your laptop is new, the other party is getting the best end of the deal.

That is the Original Digital Rebel 300D I had one of those and used it for two years (product shot photography). It did okay for my needs. The only reason I sold mine was to get the newer model with live view. About your deal...what brand are the lenses and what condition are they in?. You have seen the stuff in person...right? Once you have lenses upgrading the body is easy.

Well, As it turns out the shutter release came back at only 67 photographs taken. The lenses are in amazing shape and the lady showed me the receipts from wolfs camera where she bought both lenses and turns out she paid 1200.00 for the zoom lens and 800.00 for the 18-55mm... not a scratch on the body even better its not even the rebel she stated, turns out to be a canon t1i so I think i got the better end of the deal on this one... Thoughts?

I think you got a good deal, you said the laptop was worth $400 and change, B&H has the camera listed for almost $650 and that is just the body and the 18-55mm.
