In March, my travel buddy, Sam King, and I did a loop through Arizona starting in Phoenix, up through Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, Petrified Forest, then returning to Phoenix. In hindsight, I would not recommend visiting canyons rims during transitional weather seasons--we had strong winds all the time and, for 4 days straight, those winds were reaching 30-40 mph! But the adventurer in me still had a grand time!

First day we just traveled around the Superstition Mountains up by Canyon Lake as far as Tortilla Flats, then drove up along the Salt River as far as Saguaro Lake, stopping along the way at the several recreational parks. Blooms were scarce this early in the month, but the temps were quite warm.

Beautiful set of images, DMeyer! ##2 & 6 are my favorite!

Thank you, Don---always nice to see a Nikon man! Looked at your Flickr site and see you enjoy auto shows. I love visiting the transportation museums at Gateway, CO; Owls Head, ME; and Evergreen, OR. Those shiny cars are almost as much fun as city lights reflected on water at night.

I appreciate that, Bubalola! Did you see one of the previous comments explaining that the chapel was actually built for an Elvis Pressley movie, Charro, and now contains memorabilia from the movie? I read afterward that Charro was the only movie in which Elvis did not sing onscreen.

I love your Saguaro moonshot. I just haven’t gotton around with playing with those. As a child I can remember seeing a lot of that kind in Arizona Highways magazine. The church photo is a wow, but is it a functional church? Looks as if they built it on the site of a long gone wooden structure and the original bell is on display in the front. I guess corrugated steel might be an answer for termites, but with no windows I can’t imagine being in there on a day like today 112 degrees in the shade… if you can find the shade! I envy your trip around the state great photo results, kudos. JohnV

Nice images dmeyer. Next time you visit, come in April. The Palo Verde trees flower in April, and the golden flowers are everywhere. Sure, it's warmer than March, but it's still dry so not so bad.

I have missed the target date on many a trip when it comes to blooms or fall color--I aim for the typical peak, but then Mother Nature has her say, lol. It would have been lovely to have had trees in bloom. I will take your advice to heart, Laramie--thanks!
