Can you guess when a photographer began by photographic style?

Certainly those items can tell the truth, or deliberately used in the present, can counterfeit the past as in entertainment. I'm more interested in artistic style as a signature than I am in props and costumes.

An ironic photo exactly contrary to your observation above is that of Lewis Powell, would be assassin of Lincoln Secretary of State William Seward, while he was in prison awaiting his execution. Taken in the summer of 1865, it has a curiously modern look, as if it could have been taken recently, except for it being in B&W and the antique handcuffs. You can see it in Wikipedia by entering his name.
