The only place that I’m aware of in America where there are crocodiles is Flamingo, Florida. Flamingo is located at the very southern tip of the Florida mainland in Everglades National Park. The park rangers say it’s the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles co-exist. Stay FAR away
from crocodiles!

Oh no. Poor soft-shell turtle. I never knew that a gator would devour a turtle. Gators need to perfect devouring pythons instead. That would help the Everglades.

I have always heard that Turtles were a favorite food of Alligators. Now I know that they do eat Turtles, don't know if they are favorites, but...
Yeah, it seems like they could pitch in and help!

Went back out to the Lake very early this morning. Very early being 7am. which is when the gate opens. Full light this time of the year.
Saw and photographed a bunch of good stuff, but this was the most dramatic. So, I thought it deserves it's own post!

oh my gosh...these are amazing. everyone has to eat...even the gators.

No Way! He was across the canal and up on the far bank. I'm a photographer with a 500mm telephoto, not a suicidal maniac. I am very careful when out and about with a camera.

Thanks, texan. Definitely not what I expected when I headed out at 0630 to get some photos in the swamp! And yes, just a hungry Gator doing what hungry Gators do!

Is it a crocodile or an alligator? I thought it was an alligator. Are there crocodiles in America?

Hi Dennis - there are some crocs in Florida but they are fairly rare.

Looks like a snapping turtle - they are pretty mean themselves. I was walking around a local lake once and saw a snapping turtle trying to drown a duck to eat. The duck eventually went under.

I personally prefer my snapping turtle in soup; so I can't condemn the gator.

Apparently there are Crocodiles in America. But, no. This is a Gator. I was just suggesting that since they are pretty closely related, maybe they share the same kind of digestive systems.

Thanks. I don’t think I knew that.
