Quicken Backups - Odd

I'm going through my C drive SSD to remove anything I don't need, in some cases, moving them to D. I came across a Quicken folder, and it has current backups - like from today. When I do a backup, it goes to D. I just did a backup, and it went to the D backup and also C:\Users. I have two new files on D and the same two files on C. This doesn't happen with any other programs.

My Quicken 2007 allows me to select where the "backups" are placed. (When I tell it to do a backup.)
It also sometimes creates an "auto backup" file upon exit all by itself. Not sure where that one goes, maybe the Quicken operating directory.

As for not happening with other programs, the other programs were not written like Quicken......
Not all programs work the same/similar way.

Don't know that I exactly understand what you are seeing... I know that Quicken maintains the data file in conjunction with the program files. If I did not choose where I wanted the back-up to go Quicken would also save it with the program files. What I have just said is my understanding. I save my back-up on an external hard disk (an Iomega Peerless)

I tell it where to put the backups - D:\Backups\ etc., and that's where the backups go. They also go to C.

Quicken can be set for dual backup locations?
Or are you referring to the Quicken automatic backups going to C:.

Not automatic. When I press Ctrl-B, it backs up to D, but it also backs up to C. I just backed up again, and it went to C:\Users - Documents\Quicken

What went to C:\Users - Documents\Quicken, the automatic backup? Which is separate from the "primary" (user requested) backup. The automatic backup is like an auxiliary backup.

Version difference?

Pressing Ctrl-B opens the backup window. Clicking "Save Backup" sends the backup files to D. Those same files also go to C.

Again, version difference?
Mine just does one backup when I click on backup from the pull-down menu.
But when (not always) it does an automatic backup on exit, the little pop-up explicitly states "automatic copy".

The operating files are updated when it closes, but they are not a backup.

What goes to C is the operating file that loads when you start Quicken

I moved my Quicken 2007 to a new computer and it wouldn’t restore the back-up, didn’t recognize it or something like that. Lost years of data. My Quicken data is in the Documents folder so now I just copy all of what’s there to a thumb drive when I’m done entering stuff. Will copy that to a new PC if needed and see what happens.

Odd.
I put my Quicken 2007 on two new computers (years ago), copied all the data files from the old PC putting them in a same named directory structure on the new installs. No problem. The desktop contains the master file, so to get the current data on the laptop I simply do a "restore from backup" from the desktop. Operating files are in one place, backup files in another.
