Updated My NAS

I thought that putting larger drives into My NAS would be a quick and simply job. Not so! It was like starting from scratch. Synology now has "Shared Folders," and I had to set up five of them for the folders I backup. I then had to duplicate the SyncBack folders from my computer to the NAS. It took a while, but I'm into my last folder - My Pictures. It will take hours to copy the files, so I'll hit Pause occasionally and let the drives cool-off and rest.

It's nice having more room and newer drives.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that they could heat up (too much?) when used.

When a drive gets to about 104°, I like to give it a rest. That's probably not necessary, especially with NAS drives, but it doesn't hurt. It takes around five hours to backup Files, and about the same for Pictures.

From 3TB ($460 for two in 2014) to 8TB ($292 for two).

Why not replace one drive, rebuild. After rebuilding, replace other drive, rebuild. After rebuilding, expand drives...

Good idea - heat is the enemy of drives (and all electronics for that matter). Much like water is the enemy of houses.

I found that if I put one of those aluminum defrosting plates on top of the drive, it stays at 95°.
