Monday will be the most expensive holiday on the calendar. Every hot dog, every burger, every spin around the lake, or drink with friends and family...is a debt...purchased by others.
This is not about all who've served...that day comes in the fall. This one is to honor of those who paid in life and blood; whose moms never saw them again, whose dads wept in private, whose wives raised kids alone, and whose kids only remembered them from pictures.
This isn't simply a day off. This is a day to remember - that others paid for every free breath you will ever get to take.
Freedom!

A debt that can never be repaid.
Thank you for that most profound statement.
I’m a 30-year vet who has thought much about this … your thoughts and words are very much better than my own. Thanks for sharing your insight.

My Dad who served in WWII and I were having one of many long talks when I was young.
I once asked my father what is a soldier when I was very young?
He told me to forget what I would read in the dictionary. A soldier is a person who signs a blank check made payable to the US Government for an undisclosed amount of money up to and including their lives!
I have yet to forget what he said that day and I share this day with my friends who have served or know someone who served.
To all the men and women who served prove that freedom is not free. We should remember them not just one day but every day of the year.

Freedom certainly isn't free, but we sure have a bunch of Brass Hats and a CINC who act like it.

To all who don’t know what “CINC” means, it stands for Commander In Chief.
This is also the day to remember the differences between freedom and tyranny!
