That’s great to hear and thanks for the update! I greatly enjoy my Olympus gear and especially the lenses! Nice shots of Clifford!
Thank you! Speaking of lenses, what to get next!!!!!

I’m extremely happy with my OM System OM-1 and its all-new 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens. In just a week I’m already getting a feel for it. The IS and accurate focusing has suddenly made it easier to get good shots, and the clarity is so rewarding.
This is today’s picture of Clifford. The mechanical shutter is much quieter than my old camera, so he seemed more comfortable with it.
Thanks for your tips and I already learned the better menu is the default.
Definitely download for best quality.

I haven’t really had the chance to put mine through its paces yet but the few test shots I took impressed me. Tomorrow morning I’m taking it out for a real test.

I’m sure you’ll like it. Last night I tried Auto mode and was very happy with the results. Today I tried Auto mode with ISO at 200 and adjusted the aperture. It’s so easy. manual mode works as expected but with sharpness from excellent auto focus and IS. Btw, got through the menu for IS and change it from favoring FPS to IS. I’m sure you’ll recognize the setting when you see it.

My G9 had a feature similar to Pro Capture but apparently it didn’t carry over to the GH6. Besides Pro Capture and Star Focus I also like Live Composite and Live ND on the Olympus. Although both cameras are capable of being pretty decent at both there seems to be a clear delineation between the two, the GH6 is the choice if video is more important and the OM-1 is the way to go if still photography is your focus.
It was called Pre-Burst. The GH5 has 4K/6K Photo Pre-Burst. And those did not make it to the GH6. Perhaps in a firmware update?

Lens choice starts out with "what do you plan to shoot"
FYI - are tomes of material here on UHH on "what lens should I get".

It may be a feature held back for a future G10.
This isn't the "one killer m43 body" that some were predicting. It's similar to the GH5, as a great video camera and a very good photo camera.
It DOES have the 100MP hand-held stills feature, though, which is phenomenal. I need the camera for the video, but will buy it for that one feature alone, to copy medium format and 4x5 film images to obscenely large poster sizes.

Right! The two I’m thinking of are the 7-14mm for interiors and Milky Way, and the 40-150mm f/2.8 and 2.x teleconverter for birds and moon.

I haven’t looked at the 7-14mm yet because I also shoot FF and usually go there for wide stuff. I might need to check that out. The 49-150 Pro 2.8 is great and pairs well with the 2x, but I also would sleep on the 100-400. I’d love that 150-400 Pro lens but at about 1/5th the cost the 100-400 does great and on the OM-1 I’ve gotten good results with the 1.4x TC for a nice FF equivalence of 1120mm at f/9
I have the Olympus 7-14mm. variable Aperture, it’s good in good light, small and light and great IQ, sharp. I use it a lot I take it on trips, hiking / landscapes and for cityscapes/ seascapes. It’s one of my favorite lenses!

I am intrigued by the motion correction software of that feature.

Olympus did not make a variable aperture 7-14mm lens. They made a 7-14mm f/4, and a 7-14 f/2.8, both constant aperture lenses.

jcboy I stand (sit) corrected. I was going from memory, always a bad idea it seems.
The lens I have is the Olympus 9-18mm, f4-5.6. Bought it many years ago and while it is not a pro lens, it is perfect for what I need.

I’m about to invest in my next camera setup to replace my Canon T2i. I’m not attached to the lenses which are the old 17-55 and 55/250 kit lenses that probably came with it, older 1998? Tokina EF 80-400mm and also really old Tamron EF 70-200? Lens.
So it’s a new start. Check out my portfolio to see the types of photos I like to shoot: closeup flowers, landscape (prefer details), moon and astro, animals, birds, and wanting to do more portraits.
Do any of have the Olympus and lenses? Are you happy or do you wish you went with the new Canon R6 or other camera?
I’m very close to making a purchase so your personal experience means a lot to me.

I have the EM1 Mk3 and really like it. I did treat myself to a new lens with it, but am also using the lenses I already had for the OM-D.
I found the learning curve for the Mk3 a bit steep. I printed out the manual on 8.5x11 paper, inserted some blank pages between the chapters to make my own notes.
If I want to know something I see on the camera, the manual is my go-to, or if I want to know how to do something, ditto. Making plenty of notes in the manual on the blank pages and in the margins.
I don't think I'll ever get to know/understand everything about this camera, but so far I've been able to make it do everything I wanted.
Would I buy the same camera again? You betcha I would!

Glad you like it. Yes, the menus are daunting. Manual: olympus sent a better one upon request.
