The Mississippi Kite is 13 to 15 inches long and prey mostly on insects which they catch and eat in midair as this one is doing but they will also prey on lizards, frogs and small birds. They are monogamous and their mating range is in the Midwestern and Southern states but have been seen as far North as New Hampshire. They spend their time during the Winter months in South America. There are a pair that circle around my neighborhood I think on a daily basis and have been for the past 3 or 4 years that I know of. Many times while sitting on my front porch or back deck I have my camera ready beside me just in case. I've taken pictures of them before but yesterday afternoon got pictures of this one while it was not so high in the sky. You can see it has some kind of insect in its claws.
Very nice. We have had a pair in our neighborhood for the last couple weeks, for the first time.
Great shots. Nothing like a good inflight meal.
Great shots. We have Kites that return to nest in our Oklahoma trees for many years. I think some of them even know me by name .... !
Almost like pigeons in Edmond Oklahoma. There are so many. Love to seek them when we visit from Arizona, tho
Very nice, Jerry. I have only seen and photographed them once.

Thanks Dave. Maybe you'll get some good shots of one or both.

Thank you. When I saw them for the first time a few years ago I didn't know what they were and had never heard of a Mississippi Kite.
