You can find the in-focus plane ... if you work at it. But theres no aesthetic reward for doing so.
The nature of the "composition" is such that there can be no doubt that the focus plane passes through it somewhere. The in-focus highlights may be showing a bit of vibration.
Looks like the author has a misplaced fascination with large apertures.
The editing seems haphazard, but I find the cast shadows a really positive touch.
I have to disagree--I kinda like it. I see it as abstract.

Has a bit of a "Galaxies in Collision" vibe to it. It could be the background layer in a sci fi mash up.
